Dropbox – easy and free online storage

A few colleagues of mine were talking about Dropbox last week. If you have never heard about it before, like me, continue reading.

Dropbox gives you 2gb free online storage. Ok, thats nice, but is it useful? At first I did not really see the benefits, I always carry a 4gb usb stick with me and when I need more storage I use a laptop or my 320gb WD Passport. But in fact there are a lot of use cases where Dropbox actually is very usefull.

How does it work? When you register you get 2gb online storage. Whenother people register because of you, you earn 250mb extra. If you need even more space, you need to pay!

Dropbox give you online storage. It can sync files between your online storage and your pc. If you drop a file in your Dropbox folder it will upload the file automatically in the background.  Files are available via the Dropbox website via your online Dropbox account. You can also share files or folders with other people.

Dropbox is not only an easy mechanism for online backups but also for sharing files with other people or computers. When you have 2 pc`s (or more: laptop, desktop, work pc, etc) and you want to transfer a file from your laptop to your desktop for example, just put the file in your Dropbox folder and there you go.

Another example, do have troubles remembering your passwords? Then Dropbox is a lifesaver. Just install KeePass portable edition in your Dropbox folder. Store the database containing your passwords in Dropbox and your can access your passwords anywhere.

Just give it a try! But use this link to sign up ;-)
