On youtube is a very interesting interview with the CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt. This interview was recorded during the Google Atmosphere Conference in April this year that was attended by 400 CIOs. He explains the direction of Google and his expectations of the future of Enterprise application platforms.
Its clear that Google focusses on cloud based services and the web and mobile as the main platform for the future of enterprise applications. An interesting statement of Schmidt is that he is advising large enterprises to put their best developers on mobile apps and to give priority to mobile development. Besides the mobile platform he also marks HTML5 as the next big thing in the enterprise application development.
Personally I expect mobile platforms like Android and devices like the IPad to become more and more important. Especially looking at the expanding capabilities and performance of mobile devices but also the mobile networks getting better and faster. I think it will be just a matter of time before most of the people have and are using Internet on their mobile device.
