A few days ago I bought a Point of View Android based Tablet. The device has a nVidia Tegra 2 chipset and is capable of playing HD content. The Point of View MobII basically is a rebranded Advent Vega Tablet with some extras.
Since I have a HTC Desire Android based smartphone I wanted to install the apps that I already knew like, for example, Angry Birds, YouTube, K9 mail, Skype, WinAmp, etc. I was really pissed off to find out that the Market app is not available on the POV MobII tablet but instead has the AndroidPit market build-in. Thank god for the Internet, there is a workaround available
I found the solution on a Dutch forum, click on this link.
What you need to do to get the Market working
Download a zip file called market_update0.zip from http://itablet.freeoda.com, this is the same link the AppDownload application will open. The Android Forum tab contains a link to the market update, this will open an anoying site that requires you to wait for 60secs for the file to download. I`ve uploaded the file to my DropBox account you can download it here directly.
I copied the zip file to a MicroSD card and inserted the SD card into the tablet. Make sure NOT to extract the files and install the .apk files manually, this wont work. It is also not necessary to root the device! Just put the downloaded zip on the MicroSD card.
Once the ZIP is on the MicroSD card and the card is inserted into the table, go the to the device Settings and then select to the Software Tool. Select the Software Update option and point to the market_update0.zip file. The device will now reboot and apply the software update. After the reboot you have a working Market.
Market Fix
I have already installed most of the apps I know from my Android Phone. On a side note, not all the apps are compatible with the tablet resolution, I also noticed that some apps are not available in the store. This will get you most missing apps from the market, except some “protect market apps”
Setting–>Manage Applications–>All–>Market (Clear Cache then ‘Force Stop’ — DO NOT clear data)
Setting–>Manage Applications–>All–>Google Services Framework (Clear data then ‘Force Stop’)
REBOOT again
After the reboot you can download Google Maps and Gmail right from the market.
Advent Vega internals
Since the PoV and Advent Vega are identical, check out the following page if you want to view the internals of your PoV MobII. Warning, opening the device is at own risk: http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-vega-vega-modaco-com/324250/vega-internals/
Update
Also make sure to check out the latest version of the firmware: http://downloads.pointofview-online.com/Drivers/
Update (2)
Make sure to check out the great work of MoDaCo who build a ROM for the Advent Vega. This device is hardware identical to the Point of View. Try installing this ROM (at your own risk) if you want to get the Google Services working like Market, Calendar etc. Check out this forum.
Enjoy!!
Thank U,,Thank U,,Thank U,,,
This has help us a lot.
It works immediately.
We were just about to send this Mobii tablet back. now I think we will keep it.
I also know From POV itself that they will come with an update 1.07. This will eliminate most of the bugs already in this divise.
Tnxs again.

Can u tell us how we can download most of the dutch apps??
such as :
appie: iens: ING:ABN amro:Hyves.??
ths
sherman
Hi sherman. You can download the dutch apps from the market after applying the market fix. But appie for example fails during installation. I did succesfully install the Rabobank app.
I also managed to get the Calendar synchronization working. I will update the blogpost this evening on how to do this.
Thxs ,
we will keep this link on for details.
sherman
Hallo again,
Can u tel uw how you got the agenda synchronised with the POV mobii tablet?
let me know.
sherman
weird, on my pov this won;t work. the networklocation apk in the zip won;t install
Hi Wim,
did you follow the instructions? Put the zip file on your SD card and point to the zip using the Software tool? You should NOT unpack the zip file!
I did, i emailed the file to myself, saved it on the SD card and used the software tool. I even uninstalled all pieces off my broken market before i did that. When i do unzip i can install all apk files but the networklocation
First thing I did was download and unzip files to the SD card, but this doesnot work. You need to install the zip using the Software Tool. It wil automatically reboot the device and install the software update.
I did that too. Seems like i am only the one were it doesn’t work
maybe it will work with version 1.07 of pov.
Hi Wim,
Maybe you have a seperate file manager installed? I had estrong file manager installed, and when opening the .zip file, it was automatically handled by estrong, which then failed.
I had to uninstall it before it worked properly… Maybe this helps.
Your not the only one, I got the POV 7″. When I tried to find the software tool, I couldn’t find it in my tablet. What I found was a tool called “Applications”.
When I open the applications tool, I can only find what is already installed… When I want to install a new apk I need to manually run the apk file.
Is there anyone who can help me solve this issue?
That works, thx Jarno. ‘Clean all settings and content’ and format de SD card and trying again works. Thx.

Hi all
Getting ALL things done on the POV Mobii requires some work.
A short explanation:
1. put the Advent Vega formware on it (1.0.6.5) http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/ look for the downloads, download both USB drivers and the firmware and follow their instructions.
2. than flash it with the Modaco rom, where all google apps are included (follow this link: http://bit.ly/gU9252)
3. you can even get an performance pack, makes it a bit faster
(follow this link: http://bit.ly/eg4BdW)
if you go for the performance pack (its free) than first download that package, then the modaco package and put the performance folder in the root of the modaco rom folder. Replace the install.bat with the one from the performance pack, connect your device via USB and up you go….
DO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! AND OF COURSE: at your own risk.
in the end you’ll have a fully functional (without 3G though) tablet, fast and without warranty… (;-)
cheers
Hi,
In installed the market workaround. After pointing at the zip-file, the tablet started rebooting, but it doesn’t startup again.
I tried connecting the tablet by USB to my pc, but it does not come up in my pc.
What to do?
Remove the battery en put it back in.
Perhaps a stupid question, but how do I remove the battery…..
First try removing the SD memory card and restart the device.
If this does not work, contact PoV.
If you want to remove the battery (at own risk) see these instructions:
http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-vega-vega-modaco-com/324250/vega-internals/
Awesome description! Thanks in advance!
It’s a bit off-topic but I don’t know where else to ask this question. Did you manage to get your Contacts from GoogleMail synchronized with the tablet. I can connect everything but when I start writing a new Mail I have to know the Mail Address because there are no contacts to choose from. Is there any option to get the Mobii to have the mail contacts.
Greetz,
Hans

If we ever meet I will buy you a pint of Guinness.

I have just got a pov mobbi 10″ and as I’m an absolute beginner, how do I figure out how to use it???
Are there any publications etc I can learn from…….the “point of view” has an instruction msanual that has obviously been written by someone who has recently got a post grad in “gobbledegook”.
Any clues out there? Thanks in anticipation
Hi Nick,
I think you need to investigate a little bit how Android works. The POV tablet uses the Android operating system.
HTH,
Stephan
Świetnie, Dzięki
I do it. After some false actions hangs. After hard-reboot start to backlight-only. OK. Flash last firmware (method is in PDF on PoV web). After that i make the same, freeze with unpacking Android. After short click power button i see error “unable mount SD” .. check what is wrong on SD. I use SD without partitions, raw FAT16. Make MBR with partition, format FAT16 (1GB SD) a repeat action. All is OK. Wow. Run Market .. and .. i need Google account .. GRRR. But – thanks .. now it is my war.
Also bricked after installed “market_update0.zip”. How did you manage with re-flash ? PC and POV have USB-host both.
Stephan,
I made use of your work around to install the Android Market, it works well. I have one problem, there is a particular application of Synology (NAS) called DS Photo+ which cannot be detected through my market on the POV Tegra. I tried your suggestions, but it is still not visible. I cannot download it any other way (through normal PC and then install it on POV Tegra). Do you have suggestions how to get this .apk file to install?
Thanks, Martijn
Have you tried putting it on your sd card? Copy it from your nas to your tablet using EStrong File Explorer for example.
HTH
That’s the problem, I do not have this app yet. In order to browse your NAS with the POV, you must download this specific app in the android market. Synology itself does not provide a link to download it directly to your android tablet/phone and it is not possible either to download it somewhere to put it on an sd card to istall it ïndirectly”. So I am looking for a solution( someone who can download it from android market, put it on a sd card and can send the .apk file by email).
Thanks Martijn

Muchas gracias, eres mi idolo! Meaning: thanks a lot, u are my idol!
Greetings from Belgrade-Serbia, and thank you for an excellent guide for the market, but help me to unlock the 3G (for POV Mobile 10)
I did everything you said for installing Android Market, but after that part – “Select the Software Update option and point to the market_update0.zip file. The device will now reboot and apply the software update”. My POV does not reboot, he looks like it`s on stand by or something, i tied turning it on an off, but same result.
Help?
Your header is wrong. You are not talking about POV Mobii 10″ but about POV Mobii tegra 10″! That is a great difference!
You are correct, I changed the title. Back then when I bought the table, POV only had 2 tablet models so it was very obvious.
Thanks a lot! Now my Mobii delivered value!
Hi soudmajer!!
I have a tablet mobii 10,1″ point of view with android 2.1. first question is: can i do what you described in the beginning with that version? I mean all about the android market process. Shall i first try to install Android 2.2? And in that case, how could i do it?
I hope you can answer me soon…
Thanks a lot!!!
Hi Isa,
you can try to update to version 2.2 and then install the market.
But you can also try a different ROM, dont know if it works on the PoV tablet: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/viewsonic-g-tablet
[...] Estranhamente não vem com o Google Market. I fix it: faça download desse arquivo aqui e jogue no cartão, sem descompactar. [...]
awesome, thank you, this is brilliant
awesome, cheers. i was really struggling until i found this.
